EPISODE 36 PURE WK3 THE BODY; IS SEX SAFE?

This is the second series of the pure series using the curruculim from Jim Burns of Homeword ministries. It challenges students to live a live of purity committing a code of purity to God their family and future spouse.
This session covers the following. The Body: Is Sex Safe? [Session 03]
Key Verses
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside the body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Biblical Basis
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

Big Idea
God wants us to honor God with our bodies. Choosing to live outside of God’s design for sexuality brings a lot of negative consequences.

Goals of the Session
During this session, you will help your students:␣ Examine how living outside of God’s design can result in messy consequences.
␣ Discover the potential negative consequences of sex outside of marriage.
␣ Identify what the Bible says about controlling our bodies and showing respect for others.

This past Sunday Night

The Olympics, curling, and men with painted faces

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency is the online branch of McSweeney’s (founded by What is the What author Dave Eggers) that publishes a variety of literature (sometimes funny, sometimes reallllly deep and meaningful). You can decide which genre McSweeney’s editor John Warner’s latest essay falls into:

I AM THE MAN WHO PAINTS HIS FACE WITH THE AMERICAN FLAG AND GOES TO OLYMPIC CURLING MATCHES AND BANGS A COWBELL.

Here are the first few paragraphs:

I know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering, who is this man who paints his face with the American flag and goes to Olympic curling matches and bangs a cowbell?

Well, my name is Norman Gosselin, and I live in Alamogordo, New Mexico and I am very pleased to make your acquaintance. I have become somewhat famous during these Vancouver Olympics as the man who paints his face with the American flag and goes to Olympic curling matches and bangs a cowbell, and I am appreciative that I have an opportunity to explain myself to so many people in one fell swoop.

You have some other questions that likely include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Why do I paint my face with the American flag?
2. Why do I paint my face with the American flag and go to Olympic curling matches?
3. Why do I paint my face with the American flag and go to Olympic curling matches and bang a cowbell?
4. What is curling?

Read the rest here and you can read Mr. Warner’s similar essay, I AM THE MAN WHO PAINTS HIS ENTIRE HEAD AND FACE TO RESEMBLE THE HELMET OF HIS FAVORITE FOOTBALL TEAM, here.

DNOW PRAYER DAY

Hey everyone,

I wanted to let you know that we decided to do something new
with dnow this year.  We want to get together for a time of prayer for
the weekend.  This is open to anyone and everyone: Leaders, students,
parents, whoever.  We are going to do it at Westmeade on Thur. Feb.
4.  It will be a come and go thing from 3:30-5:00.  So tell your
students to drop in and spend a few minutes praying and then go on
with their day.  If you can do the same, it will be great.

We will have prayer requests looping on the screens and printed on a
handout.  If you have any requests that you would like lifted up, then
please email them to wayne@fbc.org.

Parents  this is not a thing where it would be good to drop off
a wild middle school student for an hour and a half.

Looking forward to a great weekend,
